2 Corinthians

Lesson 4Various Scriptures

I must apologize this week to all of you who faithfully study with us online. Hard as I try I can't capture the dialog which occurs each week in our Sunday School class at Southview. This is especially true these past three weeks as we've parked at 2 Corinthians Chapter 3 while we examine what it means to get out the Gospel Message, what the differences are between the Old and New Testaments (agreements), and how we address many of the questions raised by the lost as we witness to them.

As a result of these discussions I want to continue one last week with a few additional questions. I feel so strongly about us equipping ourselves to go and tell the good news to our friends, neighbors, co workers, and relatives that I really can't move off this chapter until we cover several important points that will help us do that.

In the last lesson, I asked you to look up a long series of Old Testament verses, which I will not repeat here, that focused on God's role in the Old Testament. Deuteronomy 31:32:15 and Micah 7:7 are representative of that list.

To conclude our study, please consider the questions below. The first four were discussed in our class last week.

  1. Was Abraham Jewish?
  2. Did Abraham follow the Ten Commandments?
  3. Would we call Abraham "saved"?
  4. If Abraham was "saved", how was that possible in the Old Testament ? (see Romans 4:3)
  5. In an ordinary dictionary, look up the word redeem or redeemed. What does it mean?
  6. What does it mean to someone if you say "you must be born again"? (See 1 Peter 1:23 and John 3:1-15)

Again, I apologize for having stretched this over so many weeks, but we need to be fully grounded in God's Holy Word if we are to be effective witnesses for him. Surrounding us are lost people who do not even know or understand what the word "lost" means, let alone redeemed, born again, righteousness, corruptible and incorruptible, and so on. How will they know, and how will we reach them if we're not prepared? As I mentioned in class last week, the Holy Spirit will lead us to opportunities, if we're willing to be led; and the opportunities will be more plentiful if we're well prepared.

May God richly bless you and equip you as study His Holy Word this week.

Yours in Christ,

Wes
