Lesson 5: Christ Living in UsEphesians 3:14-21

In the last lesson, we studied the fifty days following the resurrection of Christ. We learned in that study that after the third day Christ arose spent the next forty days with the Apostles, teaching them about the kingdom of God. We then saw that seven days passed until the Day of Pentecost (the fiftieth day from the Passover) when the Holy Spirit came and empowered the Church.

Indeed the Apostles understood the mission that lay ahead and the authority they had been given in building the Church. Finally, the Good News was revealed that Christ paid the penalty for all of us, and not just the Jews.

The current lesson is an exciting one, full of encouragement and hope. I must admit, however, that as I prepared it, I was overwhelmed by the thought that Christ lives in me; that is, I have the power of Christ within me, as do you. May God bless you greatly as you study with us these exciting passages.

Read Ephesians 3:14-21, and answer the following questions:

  1. Read Ephesians 3:16. What is Paul asking for through prayer?
  2. In verse 17, how does Paul say that we can have Christ dwell within us?
  3. In verses 18-21, what does Paul say that we will receive if we have Christ in us?
  4. Read the following verses. Next to each one, note what they tell us about our relationship to Christ.
    1. Galatians 2:20
    2. Romans 8:10-11
    3. 2 Corinthians 13:5
  5. Christ living in us gives us power to move mountains. Read the following passages and list the things that they tell us we should use that power for.
    1. Colossians 1:10-12
    2. Acts 1:8
  6. Paul also tells us in Ephesians that we have God living within us. What do the following verses tell us regarding what can happen when we have God living in us?
    1. Isaiah 40:31
    2. Acts 9:31
    3. Romans 9:26–27
  7. Many verses in the Bible speak to God’s presence in our lives, and the peace and strength that it brings. They also speak to how God provides for us, in and for every need that we have. Read the following verses, and list the benefits that each reading reveals to you about having God as our provider and source of strength.
    1. Psalm 5:12
    2. Psalm 23:5-6
    3. Psalm 34:9-10
    4. 2 Corinthians 9:8
    5. Philippians 4:19
    6. James 1:17

My prayer this week is that, as you study this lesson, you will sense the very real presence of Christ in your life, and the unbelievable power that dwells within you. May Christ’s presence be a great source of peace and comfort, and may it empower each of us to go and do great things in the Father’s Kingdom, glorifying Him and His Son Jesus as the Holy Spirit leads us.

May God bless you and lift you up this week as you study His Holy Word.

Yours in Christ,

Wes
