Missions: 10 Weeks

Week 4Samaritan’s Purse

Welcome to our fourth week of studying about missions and focusing on actual mission related work currently on-going in our neighborhood and around the world. This week we’ll look at an organization called "Samaritan’s Purse".

Christmas Child

Focused on helping others in desperate need best describes the mission and people of Samaritan’s Purse. Perhaps best known for Operation Christmas Child and Franklin Graham’s leadership, Samaritan’s Purse is a worldwide work touching the lives of millions of people meeting both their physical and spiritual needs as they minister to the world’s poor, sick and suffering. Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, and natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

For this week’s lesson, research the Samaritan's Purse website and answer the following:

  1. In what year was Samaritan’s Purse formed and who formed it?
  2. What famous words did Bob Pierce write in his Bible after visiting suffering children on the Korean island of Kojedo?
  3. Where are they headquartered?
  4. Read Luke 10:30-37. What did Jesus tell his disciples at the end of this story of the Good Samaritan?
  5. Why is Luke 10:30-37 cited by Samaritan’s Purse?
  6. How long has Franklin Graham been the President and Chairman of the Board of Samaritan’s Purse?
  7. What is PrayerPoint?
  8. Samaritan’s Purse, on their website, heading "What We Do" lists nine ways in which they minister to other’s needs. What are they?
  9. Look up the Samaritan’s Purse Gift Catalog online and answer the following. What is the amount of the donation they are suggesting for each of the following gifts?
    1. Gift Number 013977: Help Women Around the World
    2. Gift Number 013752 : Building Schools, Building Hope
    3. Gift Number 013758: Build a House
    4. Gift Number 013310: International Emergency Relief
  10. In the United States, name one thing Samaritan’s Purse does for Americans in need.

Continue to pray for Samaritan’s Purse and the work of helping those who are impoverished, suffering, and hopeless. Pray that through their work and others, people’s lives will be changed, physical needs met and souls saved as they see the work of Jesus among them and in the hearts of those who serve to meet their needs.

In Christ,

Wes
