Don’t Quit

"This is a revised version of a classic poem that was written anonymously many years ago."

I remember when I was a lad
Some advice I got from my dad.

He said when hard times come and they will
And life, it seems is all uphill
You can’t help but take the hit
Stomp your feet, grit your teeth, bite the bit
But don’t you quit!

Success is failure turned wrong side out
It’s the silver lining in the clouds of doubt.
So if life just seems to pass you by
You want to smile, but you have to sigh
And better times seem far off from where you sit
Take a deep breath, rest if you must
Kick up your heels and shake off the dust.
But don’t you quit!

I won’t say life is one big cherry when it’s the pit
It’s when things seem the worst you must not quit.
Just aim high, shoot for a star,
You never know how close you are
Stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit
...And trust in Jesus, because HE won’t quit!
